I've been swimming since I was a kid. My uncles swan so I guess you can say I was exposed to it early. As for scuba I'd always wanted to scuba dive> I'm one of those guys who used to love the tv show SEAHUNT. An in 2001 while swimming at the local natatorium I ran into a guy who taught scuba diving Nathan Carter and in March of that year I became certified.
Oh - so you are in the Bahamas!! How exciting! I have never been there but have always wanted to go. Maybe one day it will be possible. I know that with God ALL things are possible. I would like to encourage you to continue your good work and together we can make a difference in our mission to stop the drowning!! All good things to you - peace & love....Josh's Mom Wanda jean butts
I recently met Shaun and he told me about The Josh Project. I am so inspired by your courage and vision. I work with Swim to Empower, which gives free swim lessons in the waters of Eleuthera. When I return to the island in late December, I hope to share your story with a dear friend who has also lost her son, yet still will not allow her other sons to take lessons with us. Perhaps one day you can speak with her in person, mom to mom.
I very much hope to meet you soon.
Lots of love,
Hey Wanda, I'm happy to be apart and support it..... No we did not meet at the Diversity Summit. I am a good friend of Shaun Anderson's here in Virginia. But I hope to meet you in the future, Maybe April Pools Day?
Wow!! You have a great unique history in aquatics! I am very proud to make your acquaintance. I had to distinct pleasure of meeting Jim Ellis at the Diversity Summit at USA Swimming Olympic Training Center Colorado Springs , CO where he received an award and was also a Presenter and talked about the movie "Pride". You learned from the best!
A simmer 1st. Swam for the coach Ellis from Philly. The same coach which the movie Pride was based upon. From there, lifeguard certification, WSI certification, basic diver, rescue diver, assistant instructor, instructor, to EPA scientific diver.
Thanks for the come back Wanda! And I wish it was my ship! It is the EPA Ocean survey vessel which I have serve mission on in the past when it was on the east coast, in the north Atlantic. I been at diving for over 30 years now, hard to believe and am a scientific diver for EPA. I get to dive for work...sometimes :-))
Thank you Bro Ken. It would fantastic to have TAP youth come here. I don't have the exact date in December yet. As soon as we confirm the date I will give it to you. I am honored that you would even consider coming to Toledo to share with us. You have adopted a great motto which is what we all should do with and for one another. We ARE family - all God's children!! I believe that the better you are the better we all become by working together. You are a very unique brother and I look forward to meeting you one day. All good things to you.....peace & love.........Josh's Moms......wanda b.
Greetings Wanda: I am glad it worked out for you. If i can get a calendar from you , i will make an effort to bring as many TAP youth to the event as i can. They are an impressive group of young people, TAP's motto is "First We Leard Then We Teach" Don't worry about the espense we will pay for it . Ken Stewart
Thank you for asking Bro. Ken. We had a successful FUNDraiser. The NABSD did come but...the event was over when they got there. (the dive took longer than expected). I was happy to be to meet Vernon Beard and the other 4 Divers that came. They promised to come back and share info with JP and possibly bring a 12 year old certified junior diver which will be great!! Thanks again for your help, assistance and just genuine concern. All good things to you. Peace & Love...........Josh's Moms....wanda b
Hope you all had a wonderful turnout for the 2nd Annual Josh Project Fundraiser. I was so proud to see your video that John Cruzat showed to the "Packed House" (8000 folks) of Brookland Bapt. Church in West Columbia, SC( We are speaking about a Mega Church) Your video sparked much interest while it was playing, and you know I got my "YEAH WANDA" at the end of the video as the entire church applauded. You and John make an awesome team in convincing folks on the importance in getting our children signed up. You should have seen the response at the end of service. Folks were signing their children up left and right, and I was so proud to be a part of such a well worthy program. You must meet Marilyn Johnson, who put on such a sucsessful program in West Columbia, SC.(She is a DAP Member and she goes by the name of Marilyn Jeffcoat). I believe your name and the Josh Project will travel all throughout this land, and my goal is to make it travel to Mississippi as well. I will come to Toledo and support your program as well, you can count on it My Sister. Stay Blessed as you are. Darrick aka dswimmerman
When you see Swimdad, tell him I said hello, and I was waiting on his response to our last discussion
