i actually swam for the same YMCA program as shaun when i was growing up in johnstown, pa. he was a few years older than me (i was actually pretty good friends with his sister on the team) and i've been keeping up with his accomplishments through mutual friends. i'm moving to chicago in a few weeks and would love to get involved in usa swimming again so i'm trying to re-connect and learn about making an impact in the swimming community. i highly commend you guys for what you've done for the sport and am inspired by your efforts. keep up the good work and i hope to do my own part someday :)
Thanks. I swam for Morgan State College (now Morgan State University) from 1963 - 1966.
I was CIAA Champion and record holder for the 1500 1965-1966. Also, I won the 400 IM in 1966. I placed 2d in the 500 yd free in 1965. I was the leading scorer for the Morgan State team in 1964,1965, and 1966. I began competitive swimming when I was 10 years old. I swam in several D.C. municipal park meets at Banneker Pool.
I found out about you from Jennifer Galvin, the doc director of Free Swim. I don't actually know Jennifer personally; she was introduced to me via email by Céline Cousteau, whom I do know. Céline passed along to her a video I recently made about the value of infant swim lessons. It's a short 4-minute video which includes footage of my childhood near-drowning and which I'm hoping many parents will see so they'll put their children in lessons.
Google search! It really wotks. I am writting some small grants and I would love to partnership. I am sure you get many request, but I am willing to put in the work of writting the grants. What are your thoughts?
Jayson. My name is Ray Willie I am the Diversity chair for metropolitan swimming. On April 3rd I am hosting a clinic for NYC aquatics program. I was wondering if you could help me I really want to make this a special event for the kids. I have 50 coaches attending and about 100 swimmers. I am working on getting. You can email me at sweem@optonline.net
I just goggled in NORD aquatic jets and your site was one of the choices. my 12 year old daughter is a competetive swimmer who's looking to get more serious and we are thinking about letting her join the NORD jets.
I'm a volunteer researching content for an article. I volunteer at a community center in Houston, Tx, that is trying to raise awareness about how many African American children are drowning each year.
I'm glad to be on board around others who are trying to shine a little light on a most worthy cause.
Jayson, Thanks for the welcome to the site. I have recently participated in a swim coaches clinic in Boston that featured Shaun Anderson as 1 of the presenters. He encouraged all in attendance to join the site.
I am a swim coach & instructor in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood as well as a member of the New England Swimming Inclusion/Diversity Committee.
The site's goals are excellent & I look forward to learning a lot here & helping if I can. I have already sent an email to the Oprah show & hope that initiative is successful.
I am writing an article for publication on Swimming -- Developing a culture of trust in teaching beginning swimmers and was searching the web and located the website diversity in aquatics. Started browsing Mr. Duplessis blog Can AA swim well enough... Read through most of the blogs and this being a hot button issue for me decided I needed to come here.
Similar to most of the posts, I too am a man of color (AA) who had the benefit of learning to swim at a young age. More by sink or swim (8 years old, at a military pool in NJ), but really developed a love for the water.
I am really interested in busting the bubble on the NOTION that Black Folks can't swim!
In addition to the article I am writing for class, I am interested in partnering with a colleague to do something related to swimming experiences of those of color as she is Latina/Hispanic and also a swimmer. The blog and site are real exciting to know there are other people of color out there who share a love of the water and swim regularly.
Very pleasing and exciting and with the conversations that I have read, give me some ideas for study ideas.

I heard from a friend and is very interested in holding a camp in my area.
I am an ASCA Swim Coach, Certified Aquatic Exercise Instructor, and avid bicycle racer, and run on a daily basis. I own my own learn to swim business and swim team, and provide aquatic fitness programs to 2 park districts in underserved communities, which match the groups you indicate. I would love to discuss an idea I have to run a camp in three communities this summer on South suburbs of Chicago and am willing to work and raise the necessary funds to make this happen.
From Solomon Robinson. We used to swim together many moons ago with the Sea Devils & I ran into him over the summer and then a couple of weeks ago @ Takoma.

The best thing you could do is to send out to anyone and everyone who would be interested in Drowning Prevention.
