LOL... I am the one second from left in the red and yellow writing T-shirt. We were members of the team and lifeguards. I am not currently swimming, but plan to return to the water within the next few weeks. Thank you for reaching out! Always...
Thanks for reaching out Darrick. I am open to suggestions. The latest activity feed is now on the left, so you can see the new members there. Feel free to welcome them as they join the site. The more that happens, it will strengthen our community.
What is amazing is that open water swimming remains the only reasonable opportunity for many people around the world who do not have access to swimming pools. I travel from small islands in the south Pacific to Africa and open water is where I believe the need for safety is most needed for most people around the world. It remains a fact that more people drown in the open water than in swimming pools for individuals over the age of 15, no matter what country we are talking about. I understand why every swimming organization focuses on pool swimming and the unfortunate drowning deaths in pools which must be prevented, but open water is where my focus is.
Hi Darrick, so nice to "meet" you here! Yes, I am glad to be a part of the community, and thanks to Jen Galvin and Swim to Empower, I have been introduced to this fabulous site! I'm glad you enjoyed the website. If you ever need a mermaid, now you know where to find me :) Bubbles, ~Linden Oo <>/body>
Hi Darrick,
I'm sorry for the confusion about the article. I am writing 20 facts 1 at a time. I just finished the first 5. Maybe I should rename the article series?
Darrick, thanks for your kind words. Your absolutely right a lot of folks; Black, White, Asian, Latino/a won't consider open water swimming because of the issues you just mentioned, but I can't begin to describe the joy I get when I'm out there accomplishing a long swim and the sense of freedom I feel in that environment.
Hopefully - one day - you do me the honor of coming to San Francisco and swimming with me in a controlled, safe, and fun environment that will introduce you to open water. Feel free to let me know when your in the area and you can stay at my house as my guest and partake of the fun you can have in my very large swimming pool :) Stay strong Darrick and keep swimming! Naji
Thank you so much, Darrick! I appreciate the encouragement. My own children don't always understand my passion for swimming, but they just had to shut up and learn. Now I have to work on my younger children. Maybe one of them will get the bug. But, either which way, they will have this very important live skill. Thank you for reading and supporting imswimming. It makes the researching and scratching for ideas all worth it.
Greetings Darrick: I met a sister from Jackson Ms. She has an interest in doing some type of swim program in Jackson. How far are you from here? Can i put you 2 in touch? ken Stewart
Good to hear from your Darrick. It has a been a while. As Jay Z and Carlito Brigante say, "The Streets are Watching."
Everything has been good on my end. Just trying to keep things moving. Let us know what we can do to help in your efforts with the pool. And I will definitely keep you in prayer and I greatly appreciate the ones you are sending my way.
Thank you for all your kind and inspiring words. I look forward to being apart of something great in the aquatic world....a world that not many know about but all should be aware of. Live life to the fullest and SWIM!
All is well with me and family, Darrick. I have been traveling for the past 5 weeks (Brooklyn, NY, NYC, Germantown, TN twice, I am there now, St. Louis & Kansas City, MO, and Lake Rawlings). I am busy, and I do stop to smell the roses. Life is so precious, and I live for family and loved ones. Thanks for thinking of me. Take care, I will stay in touch.
Darrick,
Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I just purchase Charlotte Aquatics in December and would love to share information with you. Please let me know what information would be helpful and I will answer to the best of my ability. Hopefully, I will be of some small help inyour quest to get a pool in/near Prentiss. Looking forward to our conversations.

Thank you so very much, Darrick, for your warm welcome! As it happens, I am currently writing, producing and directing a water safety awareness video for the Virginia Department of Health, Norfolk District. This is how I was made the acquaintance of Shaun and was invited to join the site. I'm afraid that I am not the best swimmer, but I certainly do love the water and see this as an opportunity to further hone my minimal water skills. I see it as very possible that I can provide some assistance in developing a video project for Diversity in Aquatics and would love to have further discussions along those lines. If anyone would care to see just a sample of my work (e.g., television public service announcements), I encurage them to visit my My Space page at www.myspace.com/terranceaferanderson and click on the Videos link, upper left-hand corner.
Again, thank you very much for the welcome! I look forward to making some manner of creative contribution in the future.
