Yes, the Navy came through like I knew they would. The sinking of Blackhawk Down, our newest scuba attraction, was spectacular. To witness the planning, tethering, lifting and sinking of the Blackhawk airframe was beyond mere words - you just had to see it to make that connection! Under the leadership of Commander Dave Givey, the Navy sent a first-rate ambassador of joy and community spirit. Many citizens of Brunswick County came out to our park to witness this event, to include the mayor of Lawrenceville (VA) and the executive director of the Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, amongst other notables. There were actually two Sea Stallions (Sisnosky 53 helicopter) that participated in the mission, one for the lift and the other for back-up/documentation. Commander Dave Givey, pictured with me in front of the Blackhawk being prepped for the sinking, was in charge of the mission.
Hope you enjoy these few images taken of the event. More will be posted on our website at www.LakeRawlings.com on our Gallery Page at a later date.
