Just Swim For Life Program Launches with Big Goal

From NBC29.com, by Mary Dunleavy:

A record-breaking athlete is helping the Just Swim for Life Foundation launch a program to teach thousands of central Virginia kids to swim.

Kids filled the bleachers of the Smith Aquatics and Fitness Center in Charlottesville Sunday to hear a motivational talk from swimmer Sabir Muhammad. He is the most decorated African-American in the sport, breaking 10 American records. Muhammad believes every kid should have the opportunity to learn to swim. And that's the goal of the foundation which honors the memory of Ben Hair - a young man from Charlottesville who died in a car accident.

Gordon Hair of the Just Swim for Life Foundation said, "When I started seeing how much a passion learning to swim and teaching kids how to swim it was of my son's, it seemed like an appropriate way for me to spend the rest of my life devoted to teaching kids how to swim."

The foundation is handing out 500 swim lesson scholarships to kids this year, with a goal to teach 10,000 children how to swim across central Virginia.
