ISLA holds their first 3-day Open Water Life Gaurd Course in Lake Michigan

The International Surf Lifesaving Association held their first ever open water lifeguarding course this past week with participants from around the country.  The need for open water lifeguards is in demand especially because of the high numbers of drownings at beaches and lakes. The tools and skills needed to save someone in open waters are different and possibly more difficult than when in a pool setting.  The ISLA hopes their open water certification event and those in the future will help increase the amount of capable, open water lifeguards and also lower the number of downing incidents in the Great Lakes.
