Good Luck to DAP Members Doug Carrington, Matt Salerno, and Shawn Hendrix as they prepare for the HBCU Invitational this weekend. The meet is being held at the Ellis F. Corbett Sports Center on North Carolina A&T's campus. If you can't make the meet, I am sure Doug will provide a detailed recap in his blog (No pressure Doug).
25th Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet
The 25th Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet Honorees are DAP members, Mike Wright and Alana Dilette.
Here is a little background on the two honorees. If you have a moment, congratulate them on this wonderful accolade.
Michael Wright is Tennessee's first African-American member of the swimming and diving team and adds his name to a list of Vols who broke racial barriers while suiting up for the Orange and White. Wright won the title Monday at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion behind a school-record 396.00 score. After competing for the Volunteers as a junior last spring, Wright is redshirting the 2009-10 season (Monday's event was sanctioned by USA Diving, not the NCAA.). Wright transferred to UT from Indian River Community College in 2008. With his championship performance, Wright broke the Tennessee one-meter springboard record previously held by 2008 Olympian Jevon Tarantino (388.65).

Something You Might Have Missed
On their trip to the Bahamas through FINA, DAP Members Ben Sheppard and Shaun Anderson worked with the Lucayan Lightning Swim Team. They were recently featured for their work in the TheBahamasWeekly.com in an article by Patra Albury.
Lucayan Lightning Swim Team - "People Who Have Goals"
I watch a lot of movies in addition to a heavy dose of sports. Often times I get into certain moods where all the movies I watch have a certain underlying theme and last week was one of those times. The theme last week was of courage, hope, and believing in yourself and the cause, especially when it feels as if no one is listening or watching. The work that everyone here does on daily basis doesn't get the recognition it truly deserves, which is one of the many reasons why we highlight as much as we can on the DAP community. I hope everyone knows their contributions are making a significant difference in the lives of many and that people are taking notice. So again, I thank you for your continued efforts. And I will leave you with this quote from H. Jackson Brown Jr., "Our character is what we do when we think no one is looking."
