WOW! This group of children are the least skilled in the two years that RAPS has been in place. The sad part about this is that within bike riding distance, is a City of Norfolk pool. Hardly any of the children have ever had lessons which makes for low level swimmers at an older age. We have four groups of Level 2 swimmers - old and young, upper and lower 2's. We have just finished day 4 of this week and we still have children that will not let their feel leave the bottom of the pool. We even held off opening up the deep end because so few children would be able to use the diving boards. THE GOOD NEWS IS - the group that was supposed to be coming next week has canceled out at the last minute SO THIS WEEK'S GROUP IS GOING TO COME BACK NEXT WEEK! Hopefully we will be able to really make some headway having the extra week with them. If any of our groups needed for this to happen, this was the group! We still had "Breakthough Wednesday" but it wasn't like our other Wednesday's.
I am still having trouble understanding how the group that was supposed to come next week, let that slip through their hands. I have been in touch with this group since March and have spoken with the person in charge at least every two to three weeks. I guess God is looking out for this week's group that really needs another week in the water. This will be the first time that a group has stayed for an extra week. I am hoping for extraordinary things to happen for these children in the next week. Who knows, maybe EVERYONE will be jumping off the diving board by next Friday. That would be REALLY AWESOME PEOPLE SWIMMING!!!!!!!
