2012 USA Swimming Diversity Select Camp

Thirty-six athletes from underrepresented populations have come to Colorado Springs for a three-day program which includes pool training, motivational and education sessions and team building exercises.   Through these sessions USA Swimming will seek to inspire athletes and coaches from underrepresented populations to become leaders and role models not only in their club but also in their communities.

Day 1 Highlights

Coach Ozzie Quevedo took the kids through a unique team building exercise that introduced the kids and the coaches to each other.   Four-time All-American Byron Davis gave a keynote speech to athletes and coaches in attendance. Davis talked about his third-place finish at the 1996 Olympic Trials. He also talked about how athletes and coaches should focus on variables that they can influence within their circle of concern.

Early this morning USA Swimming National team staff member George Heidinger broke down national team races for athletes. Alicia Kendig, USOC Sports Dietician, talked to athletes about the importance of eating well.
