Jayson,
Concerning the first Black National Collegiate Champion in swimming you listed Fred Evans in 1974 in 100 yard Breaststroke. There was a Black Diver from Central State Ohio Al Warren who won the 1 meter and 3 meter diving titles in 1961 and again in 1962 and the 3meter in 1963 at the NAIA championships. Other Black swimmers who won NAIA championships included Byron Ware 100 yd breaststroke (North Central) in 1961, and John Swann from Tennessee State in 100 yard breaststroke in 1958. Check the NAIA records to verify these individuals.

That's amazing. It is so ironic that the event our swimmers excelled to champions was breastroke.
Comment by Jayson Jackson on December 23, 2010 at 8:55am Byron Ware is confirmed. They were also team champions. Very impressive stuff. That team was loaded with talent. Will look to confirm the other information after my morning run.
