Touch The Wall (film)

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to see the film, "Touch The Wall" .  If you are planning on seeing it... DO NOT READ FURTHER! :) The film exposes the trials and triumphs of Missy Franklin and Kara Lynn Joyce in reaching their goal to the 2012 Olympics.

I am extremely happy that an independent film about our sport was made. However, I honestly I had a few issues wit the film.

1) Why does Kara Lynn feel that swimming in Colorado with a 14 year-old would change her…

The Rest of the Story

Cullen is tweeting again. First he said he was headed to Italy. Then he said he didn't know what he was swimming, except for 100 IM.

I was on pins and needles to find out how he did. I found out that Jones and other American swimmers participated in an International Swim Meeting in Bolzano, Italy.

Then I read this mysterious tweet: "It's coming around 48.9 after heavy lift yesterday ... I'll take it...#beatenup"

Here's the rest of the story, as I found… Continue

Who would you choose as a role model?

Ryan Lochte beat Michael Phelps in a race.  Pretty amazing just as a physical accomplishment, but even more exciting from my point of view, he’s very cool.  As in getting loads of endorsements, has ‘the look’, and the kind of ‘grooves to his own drummer’ cool that kids will respond to.  There was a great article in the…

LeBron: "You Got a Brother on the Team?"

Cullen Jones recounts a funny 2008 Olympic story in a recent article in the NY Times.

Michael Phelps wakes Jones to tell him that LeBron James and other basketball stars want to meet them in the lobby of the hotel. Cullen goes downstairs and hears LeBron talking to Phelps about going for his 8th gold medal. But when he meets Cullen, LeBron exclaims, "Wait, you… Continue

10 Things I Love About Men

  1. 1. Courage: Marcellus “Dat Dude” Wiley, pro football player, was so affected by children drowning that he was willing to go on national television and say he was overcome with emotion after facing his own fear of water and doing an ocean swim. …

Who should learn to swim?

“We don’t have a pool” “We’re so busy with soccer/football/gymnastics” “It’s such a pain with the wet suits and wet hair” “It’s too expensive to join a pool or take lessons” “We’re just not a swimming family”…

Black Swim News Digresses in One Year

Last summer, the big swim news headline was the Valley Club of Philadelphia kicking black kids out. This summer, it was the group of Shreveport kids who drowned in a public park.

One was about denying access to swimming; the other was the fruit of lack of access.

The Philadelphia incident had several… Continue
