Creative Approaches to Encouraging Diversity
From USASwimming.org, By Mike Gustafson:

There are a few in the swimming world who strive to bring the sport of swimming to all races and ethnicities across the country, and they need to be recognized.
If…

USA Diving Winter Nationals
Location: Knoxville, TN
Date: 15th-22nd of December, 2011
Competition: National ranking/ Olympic Trial qualification
So the meet is over now, but looking back on the week I think the cards fell in the spots they did- for a reason. I worked very hard to be where I am at right now but I dont think I could have done it with out trusting in the Lord and believing in what my coaches taught me.
OK so going back to day one, December 15th (One-meter…

Why do we do it?
The scene in the locker room was all too familiar. Mothers with a variation of determined, frazzled, happy or ‘I’m just about to blow’ looks on their face wrestling pudgy toddler arms into winter coats and trying to maneuver feet into boots while the same oblivious child is determined to explore the…

Houston, TX - “You have to know the past to understand the present.”-Sagan
Excerpts from Chron.com, by Lauren Mathis:
It was 1960, when Johnnie Means was told his students, who were black, couldn’t take part in a Houston swimming meet. The experience inspired a young black coach during the turbulent era of segregation. In the summer of 1960, the Amateur Athletic Union invited all Houston-area YMCAs to a swimming meet. The event was held at the then-segregated Houston Shamrock…

'Skwim' coming to a pool near you
From the Daily Pilot, By Patrice Apodaca:
Entrepreneurs are intriguing people. Their brains are wired a bit differently. The wheels are always turning, they have trouble sitting still, and they're always on the hunt for a new concept, an overlooked niche, a creative solution, or simply a way of doing the same old thing just a little bit better.
During my…

The hiatus has been too long. And my body knew it.
No matter I’ve been working out 6 days a week. No matter that I completed the 100 pushup challenge, the 200 squat challenge, and have finished 4 weeks of couch to 5k training.
When I hit the water, my body let me know it’s been a long time since I’d seriously swum. I managed 500 yards in 20 or so minutes. I think I swim too fast for me to be able to sustain my pace in freestyle. I did most of my laps on my back. I decided not…
