- In 2006 I lost my only sibling to drowning. His name was John-Joshua Butts and we affectionately called him "Josh".
Josh was sixteen when he drowned, and like many of the people I meet, drowning wasn't on my radar until it happened to us. I didn't know that drowning was a worldwide epidemic that disproportionately effects minorities. I didn't know a lot of stuff about water safety but I do now and everyday I work at making sure everyone I know and anyone who will listen knows: Drowning is preventable.
