Documentary project for DAP network

Posted on May 18, 2011 at 10:48am 3 Comments

I am proposing that all DAP network affiliates gather materials in an effort to use the network resources to enable the research and production of a feature-length documentary project on the history of Swimming in the US.  So many times errors and omissions are made in the historical record until such a project is finished.

In particular, I am urging all DAP affiliates to scan photo images, articles, and any other oral-history interviews in

an effort to compile a…

Mark, Good to hear from you.I will write the ISHOF and inform them of the American Record (200 yard Free relay) set by UT team in 2001 at NCAA championships.  Along with my daughter on the relay was another African American Tanica Jamison. Kaela Humphries was a freshman at UT when my daughter was a senior. I followed the team pretty closely for several years and they had some powerfuls swims and meets during that  time.  I would be glad to share information I have on Black swimmers beginning in the 1950's thru the 1980's.  Part of my entire professional career has focused on competitive swimming and teaching swimming.  My  dissertation was entitled " A Comparison of the Effects of Two Instructional Methods on the Acquisition of Skills in Beginning Swimming (1978).  Let me know how I can help.

Sent you a e-mail. Hope you received it. In case you didn't, I met Fagin at the first Black History Meet I attended with my swimmer son, Robeson White. I know Fagin was a CIAA Champion and outstanding 50 and 100 freestyler. I know Reggie Holt very well. I saw him swim in many meets at Morgan. I was raised on the campus and swim for Morgan. In fact, I broke Holt's 200 IM record and went on to set CIAA records in the 1500 and 500 free.

Mark,

Your narrative film was simply outstanding.  It is documentation as this which has not been often known nor seen.  At some point soon, I would like to chat about it at some length.  Thanks for "Bear"...... It moved me.. Please tell your brother I asked about him and hope he is well.     newton.jackson@unf.edu

Would you mind if we added a link to your images to the PVS Website? In addition I think it would be great to highlight your items you have collected to show the history of DC Swimming during the BHM 2012! With all your items you could create a DC Swimming Muesuem!
