In the 03/10/1976 Washington Post Article by Dennis Collins, "DC Blacks Cut Bonds in Swim World," interesting
and relevant items are featured which I think merit further research and documentation. The article was a report on the
DCPS Coaches Relay Championship in which 4 generations of Coaches and Swimmers gathered to celebrate African
American participation in our sport.
Thomas Hughes, a DC resident born in 1902 , graduated from Dunbar HS in 1921…

I am proposing that all DAP network affiliates gather materials in an effort to use the network resources to enable the research and production of a feature-length documentary project on the history of Swimming in the US. So many times errors and omissions are made in the historical record until such a project is finished.
In particular, I am urging all DAP affiliates to scan photo images, articles, and any other oral-history interviews in

Mark, Good to hear from you.I will write the ISHOF and inform them of the American Record (200 yard Free relay) set by UT team in 2001 at NCAA championships. Along with my daughter on the relay was another African American Tanica Jamison. Kaela Humphries was a freshman at UT when my daughter was a senior. I followed the team pretty closely for several years and they had some powerfuls swims and meets during that time. I would be glad to share information I have on Black swimmers beginning in the 1950's thru the 1980's. Part of my entire professional career has focused on competitive swimming and teaching swimming. My dissertation was entitled " A Comparison of the Effects of Two Instructional Methods on the Acquisition of Skills in Beginning Swimming (1978). Let me know how I can help.

Mark,
Your narrative film was simply outstanding. It is documentation as this which has not been often known nor seen. At some point soon, I would like to chat about it at some length. Thanks for "Bear"...... It moved me.. Please tell your brother I asked about him and hope he is well. newton.jackson@unf.edu
Would you mind if we added a link to your images to the PVS Website? In addition I think it would be great to highlight your items you have collected to show the history of DC Swimming during the BHM 2012! With all your items you could create a DC Swimming Muesuem!
Hey Mark! I recognize Eric Greenfield and that looks like Derrick Marks in the back with Sol. The other faces I can't remember the names. I sure Sol knows. We talk about the good-ol'-days all the time. Great photos!!
Thanks So Much!!!
Hey Mark!!! Great to connect with you my friend. Please tell Rory I said "hey". Man, you blew me away with the photos of the old "Sea Devils". Even though the photos are in black and white, It was great to see our green and white striped racing trunks. Lol. It was truly a blessing to me to see photos of Ms. Stafford. I miss her dearly. Sea Devils for Life!!!!!!!
Thanks Again My Friend!!
