NABSYES in Savannah, Georgia June 21-26, 2009
The NABS 6th Youth Educational Summit 2009 was hosted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary in Savannah, Georgia. Housing accommodations were provided by Savannah State University.
There were 36 youths who attended this very successful summit. There were a total of 52 attendees, including the chaparones. Youths represented Tennessee, Texas, Arizona, Virginia, Georgia and Alabama.
I would like to take this opportunity to applaud Ken Stewart and his dedicated youth committee members on an outstanding job. We really do appreciate all your efforts Ken. I would also like to thank NOAA for the support and many hours of educational enlightment provided to all of the youths who attended. One person I would like to personally say a special "Thank You" to is Cathy Sakas, Educational Coodinator with NOAA. This very knowledgeable lady was present with us every day from breakfast to long after the sun went down. She demonstrated never ending patience and knowedge to all the youths and shared a lot of experience with all of us.
We accomplished a lot of territory and were fulfilled. I, for one, am looking forward to next year at Biscayne National Park. This is a worthwhile experience for all of our children because our goal is to "develop young leaders through Marine Science".
If you were not involved this year, put the date on you calendar for june 2010. Sponsor a child to attend this very exciting, educational and development of camaraderie with other youths. What more can I say? Hope to see you next year.
