In my primary profession I work as a diversity, equity and inclusion facilitator and director of multiple racial equity programs. I’ve been an aquatic professional for more than 25 years. I’m a graduate of Florida A&M University where I worked as the Asst. Aquatic Director for several years offering Red Cross certifications in swimming and lifeguarding. I also taught for Ellis and Associates and I am currently a faculty level trainer in swimming and lifeguarding for the Y. While at FAMU the local dive shop offered me an opportunity to learn SCUBA diving and I’ve been diving ever since. For a number of years I worked for a camp services outfit mainly serving military bases globally where I initiated and maintained aquatic programs in Spain, Japan, Germany and several other locations. Currently, I am a NAUI Dive instructor as well as a DAN First Aid Instructor. I serve as the Dive Safety Officer for the Southern SeaQuestrians Dive Club which is an affiliate of NABS (National Association of Black SCUBA Divers). I co-chair our club’s Science and Education Committee where we promote a pathway for our historically disenfranchised youth into maritime sciences.
