I'm not a great swimmer so I like wetsuits for triathlons because of the added buoyancy.  You can definitely feel the difference. With that said, I won't wear one if the water temps are too warm, for me about 72+ degrees, because I feel like I'm going to overheat.  I've tried the full-sleeve suits but unless the water is really cold (below 60 degrees) I prefer to go with sleeveless because it feels less restrictive to me.  Some stores will rent them, which is a good way to figure out what size and type you feel comfortable in before you purchase one.  Some will even credit your rental fee towards purchase of a new wetsuit.

Great questions Hutch. You might want to pose it as question in the forum to get a wider response.

I want to ask...What are some personal experiences, thoughts, feelings on wetsuits...I have never used one so I'm curious what they do for swimming??

Thank you Megan for this great group. Although, I am not a triathlete I would certainly join in on discussions concerning open water swimming!
