I am trying to find funding to support a minority swim lesson program. The participating school is a private parochial school that has 100% minority enrollment, serving an economically underserved population, through their own local grants and endowments. I am already subsidizing the swim lesson program to the extent that I am able, but we have started to loose participants and they are noting cost as the reason. I believe it is also a cultural issue and the lack of interest toward water safety among these African-American parents is an equal/greater contributing factor. If I can find a grant or benefactor to cover the remaining cost, I can continue this program.
Can anyone recommend a source(s) of funding? I did not receive a Make-A-Splash grant (not sure why) and I plan to apply again in 2012, but this program may not make through 2012.
