Mr. Leroy Jones, All-American Swimmer from Tennessee State University, has passed.

I was recently informed that Coach Leroy Jones has passed.  He was a resident of Houston, TX at the time of his transition.  Mr. Jones was an All-American freestyle swimmer from Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN during the early 1950's.  he was the first person of color to qualify for the NCAA Division I Swimming & Championship Meet back in the day, but alas, racism raised its ugly head, and Mr. Jones was not allowed to compete.  White supremacy is REALLY very shallow and stupid.

Mr. Jones later coached at Southern University during the late 1950's.  He recruited an All-American high school swimmer by the name of Thurman Robins from Houston, TX.  Thurman himself was an All-American breastroker in the NAIA division, and became a finalist and medal winner at the national championship meets.

R.I.P. Coach Jones - you are truly missed, and we were blessed to learn from you.
