Are you aware of any pool(s) that could be in danger of closing due to budget cuts?

Are you dealing with the possibility of your pool hours being cut back or even your pools closing? If yes then you definitely need to read on to learn more about how USA Swimming is being pro-active to keep pools open and be self-sustaining.

USA Swimming’s Facilities’ Development Department is addressing the dilemma of pools closures in the US. USA Swimming along with the National Drowning Prevention Alliance and the Pool Safely Campaign/ CPSC developed the next step as part of a comprehensive water safety and drowning prevention program. USA Swimming’s staff will facilitate 5 SAVING POOLS SAVES LIVES WORKSHOP across the country.

Hi Sue,

I am a USS Swim/Masters swim coach in the process of trying to start a USS Club, Masters Club, and increase learn to swim programs at the City of Lauderdale Lakes Fl Swimming Pool Complex.  I spoke with Shaun Anderson today and he suggested I contact you and that you might be able to help to us.    The city is in significant financial hard times and struggling to keep the pool open and kids getting lessons in the pool.  My swim instructor colleagues and I are in the process of negotiating a contract, and we would like to make sure we are creating programs that are sustainable.  I would have attended the Saving Pools Saves Lives Workshop, but I see that its been cancelled.  I look forward to having a chance to speak with you.

Best regards,

I do hope you had a great experience at the Diversity Summit.  I am sorry to hear the City of Lauderdale Lakes is struggling.  It was very difficult for me to cancel the workshop because I know there are city in trouble with their pools running in a deficit.

Of course we are hosting the workshops in 2012.  We could have a phone call to see if I could offer some suggestions for you. When is the best time to be on the phone.

Hi Sue, anytime during the day, morning usually better than other times.  Today I have a 4pm meeting at the Lauderdale Lakes pool, so if you were available to talk today, that could help and would be greatly appreciated.
